Abstract

Jahangir Qaemmaqami is one of the historians and researchers who has studied diverse and new historical topics. He has also played a role in the history of Iran's historical studies as the editor of the historical review magazine, which is considered one of the most important historical publications of the Pahlavi period. Qaemmaqami has often been introduced as an official historian But on the other hand, after people like Abbas Iqbal, Rashid Yasmi, etc., he represents a new generation of historical researchers who brought about innovations in the field of history. The contradictory position of Qaemmaqami has caused him to be among borderline figures in the field of historiography; Characters who had one foot in tradition and one foot in modernity and could provide the possibility of transition and at the same time take an important role in the construction of new historiography. For this reason, this research, by examining the components of the historiography of Qaemmaqami seeks to answer the question of how the confrontation of Qaemmaqami with the new historiography took place and what theoretical and methodological approaches he took in this process. Based on the study, it seems that despite the important role of Qaemmaqami in the transition from traditional historiography and dealing with new fields of history science and using new methods, he has not been able to use a new theoretical model in historiography. In other words, Qaemmaqami has not been able to present a coherent formulation of new historiography in the process of transition.
