Abstract

The press, including journals, newspapers, and magazines, was one of the main pillars of intellectual flow and change in Iran during the Qajar era.
One of the effective strategies of journalists to raise awareness and create demand among the people was to introduce the media and express its importance in the course of progress and innovation in Western societies. among different countries, American newspapers were considered as a model for dissidents and press activists in the Qajar era.
Using an explanatory approach and drawing on the concept of modernism and the critical discourse of Qajar-era reformers, this article answers the question of how Iranian newspapers in this period introduced the progress of the press in America and what achievements this awareness had for Iranians. by examining the press of the Qajar era and the unpublished documents of the State Department, it was hypothesized that Iranian dissidents methodically, by writing numerous articles about the flourishing and prosperity of the press in America, explained the role of newspapers in creating social and political change and progress in this country. and they believed that creating change in the social and political structures of Iran also required the development of the press and awareness through it. Believing  themselves to be guided by the American experience, Iranian journalists and diplomats in Washington promoted the expansion of the press and the improvement of its quantitative and qualitative situation in Qajar era Iran. The entry of the printing industry from America and participation in the Newspaper Congress of this country also followed this model.
