Abstract

Preface writing is an old and the constant tradition in Iranian historiography that has been continued from 11th century to the present time. Although this part of historiography relatively has constant elements and templates by external structures from its existence to the formation of Iranian modern historiography (the Constitutional Revolution-1906), but according to historical and political characters of the period and the historian's relationship with political power, each preface has unique features from the viewpoint of concept and content which makes it different from other prefaces. The main problem of this study is review of the content and structural features of the prefaces of Afsharid historical texts and analyzing of their similarities and methods of modeling on previous texts. The results of this case study research shows that although the prefaces of Afsharid’s historical texts in many cases have modeled and simulated their structure, and sometimes contents from previous texts, but their authors have been able to augmentation some aspects to common patterns of preface writing, especially from the perspective of content and concept.
