Abstract

 this investigation is about to evaluate critical realism in the view of Ibn Khaldun. Also other goal is to evaluate his cyclical model about rise and fall of village (Badyah) and city (Shahr). This document based study shows that Ibn Khaldun's view has a critical aspect in one hand and a realistic dimension on the other. The critical aspect focuses on reviewing historical narratives and matching it with historical facts to achieve accurate and reliable history. Its Realistic aspect focuses on passing the surface and entrance to the depth in order to discover the "nature (Tabia'a)" of history. nature of history are that rules that human social changes are done according them. Ibn Khaldun gives a cyclical model of historical developments according to this approach. "Assabyah" is the dynamic force, and Village (Badyah) and city (Shahr) are the forms of this model. Critique of historical narrative in order to reach the reality, based on qualitative evaluation of historical facts is the prominent dimension of Ibn Khaldun's viewpoint. According to this view Ibn Khaldun believes that history should be purified from forgery and ambiguity to present the perfect evaluation of events.
